Gouache
The simple beauty of vegetables freshly gathered from my garden provided the inspiration for this still life. I arranged the ripe red tomatoes and green pepper on a plate, exploring their contrasting colors, shapes, and textures under carefully considered lighting.
Working in gouache, I enjoyed the richness and opacity of the medium, using expressive brushstrokes to develop the rounded forms of the tomatoes and the irregular contours of the pepper. The warm background and cast shadows helped establish the arrangement while emphasizing the vibrant colors of the freshly picked produce.
I have always enjoyed growing my own vegetables, and this painting brings together two interests that give me great pleasure: gardening and painting. It celebrates the simple beauty of an everyday harvest and the artistic possibilities found in familiar subjects.
