Working from a photograph I took of my mother, I wanted to capture the familiar expression in her eyes and the character reflected in her face. I concentrated on the subtle details that made her so recognizable to me, allowing the drawing to remain loose and spontaneous in other areas. This study is as much about preserving a personal moment as it is about observing the features of a familiar face.
