Deezo's portrait came about when his owner responded to an advertisement I had placed in my Staten Island Real Estate Properties Magazine and commissioned me to create a painting of his beloved dog.
Working from a photograph supplied by my client, I was immediately drawn to Deezo's wonderfully expressive eyes, rich chocolate-brown coat, and cheerful expression. I particularly enjoyed capturing the subtle variations of warmth and light across his face, along with the delicate details around his muzzle.
The vibrant turquoise-green background provides a striking contrast to his warm brown coloring, bringing energy to the composition while keeping Deezo's engaging personality at the center of attention.
My client was delighted with the finished painting, telling me that it had turned out even better than he expected. A couple of years later, he contacted me again to let me know that Deezo had passed away. I was especially touched that he remembered me and reached out to share the news. It was a meaningful reminder that a portrait can become much more than a likeness—it can preserve the memory of a beloved companion for years to come.
