This graphite portrait of Joseph was inspired by a photograph provided by his mother, who particularly loved the happiness and expression captured on his face.
The original photograph showed Joseph in a wheelbarrow filled with autumn leaves, Joseph was enjoying one of those simple moments of childhood happiness. What drew me to the photograph was his wonderfully spontaneous expression.
For the drawing, I chose to simplify the composition, allowing his joyful expression to become the center of attention.
My goal was to preserve that wonderful, spontaneous happiness of childhood—a fleeting moment transformed into a lasting keepsake for his family.
