After seeing the graphite portrait I had created of her father, my sister-in-law Shazela asked me to draw one of her as well. I wanted to capture her expressive eyes, gentle smile, and the flowing texture of her hair, paying particular attention to the subtle details that made her likeness so recognizable.
Seeing Shazela holding her finished, framed portrait was especially rewarding. Since her passing, both the drawing and the photograph of her proudly displaying it have taken on an even deeper personal meaning. What began as a portrait created at her request has become a treasured remembrance.
